If you thought Ben Mezrich’s interest in the Winklevoss twins ended with “The Accidental Billionaires,” his 2009 book about the creation of Facebook — think again.
Now, thanks to their investment in Bitcoin, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss will be the subject of Mezrich’s new book, “Bitcoin Billionaires,” slated for publication next spring.
The book will detail how the Winklevoss brothers — who famously accused Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea for Facebook and settled for $65 million — invested a portion of their settlement in cryptocurrency in 2013. The Washington Post reported their $11 million purchase secured them 1 percent of all Bitcoin in circulation at the time; Bitcoin’s total value breached $100 billion last fall, leaving the Winklevii (played by Armie Hammer in “The Social Network”) with a very hefty sum.
Mezrich most recently collaborated with his wife, TonyaMezrich, on 2017’s “Charlie Numbers and the Man in the Moon.” The book, targeted at elementary- and middle-school readers, follows the titular Charlie as he uses math to solve mysteries.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals recently donated more than 10,000 copies of the book to Boston Public Schools students.
