As Bitcoin marks its tenth birthday, will the crypto critics be proved right?

At a US congressional hearing earlier this month, Nouriel Roubini, an economist and professor at New York University who foresaw the global financial meltdown of 2008, made no efforts to mask his disdain for Bitcoin.

“It is clear by now that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies represent the mother of all bubbles,” he said in a testimony to the Senate Committee on Banking.. “Blockchain is the most over-hyped technology ever.”

Dubbed “Dr. Doom” for his gloomy economic forecasts, Roubini has been a vocal critic of cryptocurrencies, which he has described as “scams”, “pipe dreams” and “sh*tcoins”.
